On October 2003 the Latin American Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS – RedLa+ - started publishing this electronic bulletin as a way to widely broadcast the activities of the Network in their different areas. Each month our bulletin delivers clear, simple and documented information to a total of 17,946 people who are registered in our database. Of these, 93.5% Among those who have regular access to this information are, Organizations and socially based initiatives, researchers, People Living With HIV/AIDS (PLWHAs) and journalists interested in the subject matter. This information is also published in RedLa+’s Web page. During the last three years we have been able to motivate activists to consistently participate in the production of the content that is published through this digital media and therefore give the information the perspective of the community where the thoughts and expectations of PLWHAs are registered and broadcasted. RedLa+s’s electronic bulletin is edited within the scope of the Global Fund initiative, a stage in which this Network is the focal point of communication for NGOs in the South. This year, our editing team participated in the XVI International AIDS Conference (August 2006, Toronto) and this allowed us to give our readers the different reports of the various activities that took place during such an important world event. It also served as the perfect stage to perform community journalism and for PLWHAs toexercise their right to communication.
It is represented in 20 countries in Latin America: Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia, Peru, Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Panama, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, Belize, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, Cuba and Mexico. RedLa+ works to improve the quality of life for PLWHIV/AIDS at a national, regional and international scale, through information, communication, meetings and the development of institutional and individual skills. |
